This is a good opportunity to become one... there is a very tight API for robot development, so the learning curve is not
too steep:-) take you chance and have fun!

I would love to port TORCS to Java 3D so that we can have races on Macs, Unix and PCs.

Not really, I'm more a driver than a bot maker. Besides, I don't know how to make one :P.

Yes, I am looking at Torcs for the sole purpose of doing AI research, i.e., developing robotic driver agents that can learn in their environment over time. I've been comparing numerous platforms (RARS, vdrift.net, racer.nl, torcs, etc.) and find that while vdrift and racer DO look nice, TORCS also looks pretty nice and appears to have a much more stable development base with which to work. Hopefully I'll share some results with the community at some point in time...
